  14. Here's a simple line-in-use indicator that I've found useful:

  24. R1 - 10K ohms

  26. D1 - green light emitting diode (LED)

  28. When the line is available the LED is lit; when it is in use the
  29. LED is out.

  31. This will only work with 2 or 3 instruments on 1 line.  You may
  32. have to reverse the connections to Tip and Ring;  Telco central
  33. office batteries don't always have the right polarity.
