- The official (set forth in a NASA SP) rules on authorship at NASA
- state that "In papers of joint authorship, the authors' names appear
- ina sequence that will, in general, indicate the amount of
- responsibility assumed for the joint effort; that is, the first-named
- author should be the chief contributor, and other names should follow
- in the order corresponding to their respective contributions."
-
- I should also mention that NASA employees are never mentioned in
- Acknowledgement sections; they're just doing their jobs, so such
- mention is not appropriate. I was allowed an Acknowledgement section
- in one (of 15 or so) papers to refer to the US Navy's providing a
- tanker airplane for our experiment, but this would have been improper
- had another NASA center provided the tanker.
