  16. Note has been made on an error in terminology in the obituary of
  17. Daniel Gorenstein in the New York Times.  I would have expected, in
  18. this forum, that the first error to have been noticed would be that
  19. the article appeared to credit group theory for proving the
  20. impossibility of squaring the circle.  The classification of finite
  21. simple groups doesn't need the support of irrelevant mathematical
  22. accomplishments.  Also considering the recent front page treatment
  23. given to "the president on the left didn't say what the president on
  24. the right said that he said", the use of the E. T. Bell version of
  25. Galois was somewhat inappropriate.
