- Note has been made on an error in terminology in the obituary of
- Daniel Gorenstein in the New York Times. I would have expected, in
- this forum, that the first error to have been noticed would be that
- the article appeared to credit group theory for proving the
- impossibility of squaring the circle. The classification of finite
- simple groups doesn't need the support of irrelevant mathematical
- accomplishments. Also considering the recent front page treatment
- given to "the president on the left didn't say what the president on
- the right said that he said", the use of the E. T. Bell version of
- Galois was somewhat inappropriate.
