- *** WARNING *** DO NOT USE REGULAR COTTON 'Q-tips' ***
- It was suggested to me to just use a piece of paper towel soaked in alcohol.
- I have done it several times. Fold the paper towel a few times to make a
- small pad about 3 x 5 inches. Wet a spot on it with alcohol and then put the
- wet spot against the head/drum. No need to press hard. Rotate the head back
- and forth a few times and a small dark spot will appear on the paper towel
- (the dirt coming off). Repeat a few times until no more dirt comes off. Make
- sure you get *all* of the heads!
-
- Yes, the hardest part of the whole thing is getting the cover off the
- VCR -- especially the first time :-) Now I can do the whole job in well
- under a half hour and most of that time is disconnecting all the cables
- and getting the VCR out, and putting everything all back.. Sure beats
- taking it somewhere for $50.
