  21. It was suggested to me to just use a piece of paper towel soaked in alcohol.
  22. I have done it several times.  Fold the paper towel a few times to make a
  23. small pad about 3 x 5 inches.  Wet a spot on it with alcohol and then put the
  24. wet spot against the head/drum.  No need to press hard.  Rotate the head back
  25. and forth a few times and a small dark spot will appear on the paper towel
  26. (the dirt coming off).  Repeat a few times until no more dirt comes off.  Make
  27. sure you get *all* of the heads!

  29. Yes, the hardest part of the whole thing is getting the cover off the
  30. VCR -- especially the first time :-)   Now I can do the whole job in well
  31. under a half hour and most of that time is disconnecting all the cables
  32. and getting the VCR out, and putting everything all back..  Sure beats
  33. taking it somewhere for $50.
