- Here is a press release from the Service Employees International Union
-
- Union To Go After Aetna Coast-to-Coast to Help End Strike
- To: National and Assignment desks
- Contact: Jerry Brown of the Service Employees International Union,
- 203-549-1199
-
- News Advisory:
-
- Delegations of workers and leaders from the million-member Service
- Employees International Union will call on offices of Aetna Life and
- Casualty in 25 cities on Thursday, Aug. 27, delivering copies of a
- letter requesting that Aetna's president and CEO and the Aetna board
- of directors meet with members of District 1199-SEIU who are part of
- a seven-week-old strike of 650 healthcare workers at Oak Hill School
- for the blind and mentally retarded in Hartford, Conn.
- The union is requesting the meeting because three Aetna executives
- who sit on the board of directors for Oak Hill School have refused to
- meet with the striking workers.
- Oak Hill School is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious
- institutions for the blind and mentally-retarded. District 1199-SEIU
- is an aggressive local union of mostly female, mostly minority,
- historically underpaid service workers and its parent union is the
- fourth largest and fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO and the
- biggest union of healthcare workers in North America.
- Locations of the Aetna offices and the names and telephone numbers
- of SEIU local union contacts are as follows:
