- I just want to double check things before I tell my purchaser that he
- botched up a tape order...
-
- How can I tell if a Sony data grade 8mm tape is rated for 5 Gb
- capacity? I have tapes that come in these opaque white cases, and the
- tape shell has orange lettering on them. The tape length is listed at
- 112 metres, and the tape designation is QG-112M. Earlier discussions
- indicated that doubling the tape length parameter to dump will take
- care of moving to 5 Gb tapes, but is the actual physical length of the
- tape doubled or is the tape density increased?
-
- I'm pretty sure I got 2 Gb tapes when I asked for 5 Gb tapes, through
- empirical tests where I used the same dump commands as I've always
- used before, only doubling the tape length parameter. I just ran the
- dumps until the drive complained of EOT, then tallied up the capacity
- of the volumes dumped, and arrived at around 2.3 Gb.
-
- Please respond through the newsgroup, because I suspect others might
- be interested in this news, as well.
