- My hard disk has developed serious problems...
- I have a Plus with 4MB RAM, 84M partitioned hardisk running system 7.
- First I have been running Norton 2.0 fairly faithfully (twice per week)
- Yesterday I got a volume info block error that it found every time it ran
- but always claimed that it fixed it. The program always crashed during
- volume optimization. So I pulled out an old version of SUM II and managed
- to get most of the disk optimized, and completely unfragment it. It also
- crashed. None of the utility programs that I dragged out would lock out
- those bad sectors or move the files (if there were any there off them.
- (I have my doubts because both Norton and SUM said that all the files were OK)
-
- Now I have a partition with all my applications on it that is
- really bizarre... First I notice that all the icons are generic, and
- rebuilding the desktop does not help the situation. Then none of the
- applications will launch claiming that there is not enough memory, that
- the application is set to run under 0k, error -50 occurred... Frankly,
- I'm baffled. I need a solution because like most of you Mac users, my
- mac is my livelihood. Any ideas or input over these newsgroups or through mail
- would be gratefully received. I will post the solution as soon as I discover
- it.
