  11. We have a troubling phenomenon on some number of systems (so far about 6 out
  12. of 250) of various types (IIci IIcx, IIfx, etc.), all running a System 7.0.1
  13. configuration that includes v1.1.1 of the System 7 Tuner. It seems
  14. applications *disappear* seemingly while in use! The application files can
  15. typically later be found by Norton in the deleted file space, but are most
  16. often unusable. The user is typically actively working, then their application
  17. quits unexpectedly or crashes. The application then can't be restarted because
  18. the application file is no longer on the disk (likely the reason for the quit
  19. or crash).  We've seen this repeatedly with MacX, and more recently on a
  20. couple of systems with Telnet and PowerPoint. The systems show no other sign
  21. of damage (as reported by tools like Norton Disk Doctor), don't seem to be
  22. infected by any known viruses, etc.. Many other (unaffected) systems with
  23. identical System Folder configurations don't exhibit the problem (yet), and
  24. most of the affected systems don't have any extensions or control panels added
  25. to our standard.  We're trying to narrow down what some of the similarities
  26. are (Apple disk drivers versus 3rd-party, etc.). Has anyone else seen this
  27. kind of behavior or have any hints on what to be looking for?
