- I'm in the market for a new motherboard and am looking for recommendations
- (based on experience, of course). I'd consider a 386/40 on up; with the
- assumption that a 486SX25 is "up" from a 386/40 :-).
-
- The limitation here: I can't spend more than about $1000 for the motherboard
- AND memory ( 8 or more megabytes, preferably more).
-
- My current system is a Northgate 386-20 w/page-mode motherboard and 4 meg. I
- sprang for Northgate's 32 bit memory board and 4 more meg, at $500, but quickly
- found the system crashing like mad with TRAP 000's and TRAP 002's. IBM told
- me it was a memory problem, so I called Northgate, who confirmed that there
- were known problems with that card and OS/2. They were neither very
- sympathetic nor very helpful, but they finally, reluctantly, agreed to take
- back the board and give me a refund. Thus I find myself with $500 back from
- them plus some other rainy day money looking for a new motherboard.
-
- Any experiences, esp. with prices and suppliers would be greatly appreciated.
- Please e-mail as this newsgroup grows way too fast for me to keep up with. I
- will consolidate and post the replies.
-
- Thanks...
