- I'm trying to setup minix on my 486 clone and have come across
- several problems. Is there anyone out there that can help me?
-
- PROBLEMS:
- 1) Can't boot from Minix boot disk.
- (I solved this by turning off my internal and
- external caches. Can I boot without doing this?)
- 2) Sometimes when I use the MORE command the text
- rolls off the screen. I'm using a Trident SVGA
- with 1MB RAM and a 15" NI monitor. How do I set the screen
- rows? Can I set the screen rows?
- 3) How do I partition my hard disk to store my Minix files?
- DOS only allows for 2 partitions, a Primary and an Extended.
- I want to put Minix on a separate 3rd partition (hd3).
- I think you can do it using Minix fdisk but I don't know
- exactly how. I just want a 7MB partition. My hard disk is a
- 200MB IDE drive.
- 4) What's a good book on Minix?
- 5) Can I use my modem? How?
- 5) Anything else I should know about setting up Minix on my
- 486-33?
-
- MACHINE CONFIGURATION:
- 486-33 (256K cache)
- 4 MB RAM
- AMI bios
- Opti Chip Set
- 203MB Maxtor IDE Hard Drive
- 15" NI SVGA monitor
- Trident SVGA card with 1MB RAM
-
- Any help would be greatly appreciated.
