- Would someone please be so kind to post or send me a copy of the FAQ
- list for comp.os.mach?
-
- While I am using bandwidth, I am interested to know whether there is
- any public domain OS available, based on Mach, which will allow me to
- run X Windows and Free Software Foundation software on a 386 machine.
- What would be most helpful is if someone could send me the following
- information:
- 1. Summary of your hardware platform
- a. processor
- b. BIOS
- c. VGA card
- d. floppy/HD controller
- e. other hardware requirements
- 2. Software packages that work
- a. FSF Software (GNU, etc.)
- b. Shells
- c. X Windows/386
- 3. User Issues
- a. Can I boot from the hard-disk?
- b. Can I run on a network with TCP/IP?
- c. UUCP?
- 4. Performance Issues
- a. How much memory (RAM) should I have?
- b. How much disk space is required for the minumum/maximum
- OS installation?
- 5. Some known problems/bugs...
-
- My problem domain is "simple". I want to use the abovementioned packages
- to do work on parallel (and distributed) research. If anybody is using
- Mach for such research on networks of PC's, I'd really like to hear from
- you.
-
- Thanks for all responses in advance and, if requested by other readers, I
- will post a summary to comp.os.mach.
