  19. What is FoilTeX?
  20.    FoilTeX is a LaTeX-like system for typesetting foils, slides,
  21. transparencies, etc.  It differs quit a bit from SliTeX, both
  22. in usability and in presentation.  It supports very large fonts
  23. and all of LaTeX's font changing commands (using Old Font Selection
  24. Scheme).   There are lots of built-ins for helping user's structure
  25. their foils and it supports (automatically) just about everything
  26. in standard LaTeX.  For more information, please consult the
  27. documentation (foildoc.tex) which is part of the package.
  28.    FoilTeX supports and is completely compatible with the new
  29. color scheme included in recent releases of Rokicki's dvips driver.
  30. (In fact, it was the FoilTeX effort that lead to the development
  31. of that color scheme.)  Consequently, FoilTeX can be easily used
  32. to get one-pass multicolor foils (if used with the right driver
  33. and printer, of course).

  36. Where is FoilTeX?
  37.    The first official non-IBM version of FoilTeX has just been
  38. installed on some of the TeX archives.  It can be found in
  39.    LOCAL:[ANONYMOUS.TEX.INPUTS.FOILTEX] at ymir.claremont.edu
  40.    soft/tex/foiltex at ftp.uni-stuttgart.de
  41.    DISK$TEX:[TEX-ARCHIVE.FOILTEX] at TeX.ac.uk
  42. and hopefully other archives as well.
  43.    In all but the Aston archives you will find both a collection
  44. of plain (ascii) files as well as a compressed tar file of the
  45. entire package.

  48. Who developed FoilTeX?
  49.    FoilTeX was originally developed by here at IBM's
  50. Almaden Research Center a couple of years ago.  It has found wide use
  51. and acceptance inside IBM and the version out on the TeX archives is
  52. an updated and improved version.  The archived version is also the
  53. first release of the package outside of IBM.
  54.    The package was first publicly announced at the TUG'92 meeting
  55. in Portland, OR.
