- Sound like an idle speed control motor. This is what they use to
- maintain idle speed on Fords. It is a DC stepper motor that can
- extend or retract a plunger (under control of the car computer), which
- presses against the throttle lever to adjust idle speed. Think of it
- the way cruise control maintains a throttle setting under different
- loads, the ISC motor does a similar thing at idle. Usually the
- computer looks at the throttle position sensor, transmission-in-drive
- switch, A/C on/off setting etc. and tries to keep the idle speed
- constant.

- It is pretty easy to test if the ISC motor is functioning, you just
- unplug the electrical connector and apply direct voltage to it to
- see if the motor works. If it moves with DC applied to and can
- extend and retract all the way, the motor is good and it is a TPS
- sensor or some other problem which is preventing it from getting
- powered on at the right time. If it is stuck in the extended
- position that would explain the very high idle also.
