- hello,
-
- While my car (an 82 buick skylark that I'd never recommend) was being
- diagnosed I ran into a sales engineer for the test equipment (sun).
- He made the point that if you have a PC, a $200 dollar device can give
- you a very sophisticated home device for diagnosing the newer cars.
- In my own case, a previous mechanic was insistent on a timing gear
- change, while the electronic diagnosis (along with an honest mechanic)
- disagreed with.
-
- Eventually , states will not allow the older. simpler cars on the
- road. The DIYer's will have to confront the newer technology. The
- self reliant, computer literate crowd on rec.autos.tech seems to be a
- good place to start this thread. So..
-
- How useful are these devices, any first hand experiences?
- Which brands are available and whose are best?
- Can you rent these devices (would the AAA consider renting these)?
-
- thanks,
- ira
