- Greetings all,
-
- A good friend of mine would like to have his mac II running system 7 come up
- colored. I come from the DOS world, and I told him that Windows allows the
- coloring the windows and background using one of the standard Control Panel
- utilities. Icons are easy to color as well. To my great surprise, this seems
- to be hard to do on a mac! I was somewhat astonished since macs existed way
- before Windows did, and you'd think mac users would have experienced such a
- basic need. Such a feature should be part of the system, you'd think.
-
- First, we noticed some Color item in the mac control panel (or was it the
- Apple menu?), but it seems very primitive and limited. My friend is adamant
- that this just won't do.
-
- I downloaded for him as many FAQ I could find about macs, laptops, systems,
- tricks, etc. He went over them and said that there was no mention in there of
- any decent coloring utility. Now that's surprising.
-
- I then got busy FTPing from a bunch of sites. I located "colorfinder" but my
- friend indicated that it only could color icons, not handle windows,
- background patterns, etc. Not good enough.
-
- I was given some "colorize" utility, but it only allows you to color
- application boxes. It does not color things automatically at the system's
- level. Not good enough.
-
- Then we got lucky. My friend was given some "kolor" program which seemed to do
- what he wants, but won't run properly under system 7. At one point, the system
- crashed hard and we had to wipe up the hard disk completely in order to have
- the mac accept to reboot at all from it. Talk about incompatibility! We have
- no idea where this kolor thing comes from.
-
- At this stage, we're running out of ideas. So I thought I'd ask around. Does
- anybody know of some FAQ that might explain it all, some FTP site that might
- have it all, or some commercial program that might do it all? My friend sure
- would be delighted.
-
- I just thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any info. I did my best to help
- my friend out, but I ran out of options!
-
