- Since you are successful with the PS/2 to Mac transfers, I assume you are
- using something like Apple File Exchange or some "DOS Mounter", and that
- your Mac has the required high density drive.
-
- Most problems I've encountered, were due to the files from one machine
- having different file structures than the other machine's programs can
- read. To be able to convert such files, you need "translators" that are
- intended for the specific file types involved. In the case of Apple File
- Exchange, no conversion is necessary for some files, such as ".GIF" graphic
- files. The default binary conversion works for these. Also, AFE has a
- built-in text translator you can select. However, if you have a WordStar
- document on the MS-DOS disk, and you want to use it with MicroSoft Word on
- the Mac, a separate translator is needed for direct conversion.
-
- If you don't have the needed translator, check the "Save As" options in the
- program of origination. Some have alternatives to their default format.
- For example, Excel has several, including "SYLK". An Excel file saved in
- the SYLK format, can be transfered to the other disk using the default
- (binary) method, and be directly loaded into Excel on the other machine.
- It should be noted that MS-DOS programs usually depend on the suffix of a
- filename to determine which format it is in. An Excel SYLK format file
- must have the suffix, ".SLK", to be correctly loaded into MS-DOS Excel. I
- understand it also must be saved with the ".SLK" suffix, to ensure it is in
- the correct format.
-
- Does any of this ring a bell? Be a little more specific about your
- problem, and we can zero in on it!
