  22. I don't know anything about the internals of Illustrator, but I do know
  23. about the interface to the Print Manager.  The printer information
  24. subrecord of the print record gives you the horizontal and vertical
  25. resolution of the printer used with that particular print driver.  This can
  26. be different from one driver to the next.  If you want to indent 1/2 inch
  27. on paper, for instance, you move in by a number of pixels equal to half the
  28. horizontal resolution rather than just by some fixed number of pixels or
  29. points.

  31. Also, the screen itself may not (probably does not) display at precisely
  32. the size the software thinks.  Distortion, especially near the edges of a
  33. monitor, is considered normal within limits, and is subject to fluctuations
  34. coming through the power supply, and fluctuations caused by magnetic fields
  35. nearby such as a second monitor.

  37. So, the monitor may not be displaying exactly the size you expected, and
  38. the software may not be reinitializing the print record with fresh info
  39. from the driver for that printer, or may be assuming a fixed number of
  40. pixels.  You can usually reinitialize by reselecting the driver with
  41. Chooser, then using Page Setup (select a different driver, then select the
  42. original driver again, possibly while the application is running).
