- I went through the exercise of looking for DST on the Mac just a few weeks
- ago. Apparently, Apple still hasn't fully defined how the dlsDelta field
- of the MachineLocation data structure will actually be used. It is shown
- in the Macintosh Worldwide Development Guide to Sytem Software but with no
- explanation of how it is to be used. It's not clear to me that a single
- byte is enough to correctly encode all of the variations on DST which
- politicians around the world are likely to come up with anyway.
-
- However, the author of the Network Time cdev will shortly (or maybe does
- now) offer a driver status inquiry which will work at least for U S DST
- conventions. This should suffice for U S users until Apple figures out
- what to do. I hope they get it together enough for the OCE release.
- Digital Signatures are not going to be much use without accurate dates and
- times.
