  20. I went through the exercise of looking for DST on the Mac just a few weeks 
  21. ago. Apparently, Apple still hasn't fully defined how the dlsDelta field 
  22. of the MachineLocation data structure will actually be used. It is shown 
  23. in the Macintosh Worldwide Development Guide to Sytem Software but with no 
  24. explanation of how it is to be used. It's not clear to me that a single 
  25. byte is enough to correctly encode all of the variations on DST which 
  26. politicians around the world are likely to come up with anyway.

  28. However, the author of the Network Time cdev will shortly (or maybe does 
  29. now) offer a driver status inquiry which will work at least for U S DST 
  30. conventions. This should suffice for U S users until Apple figures out 
  31. what to do. I hope they get it together enough for the OCE release. 
  32. Digital Signatures are not going to be much use without accurate dates and 
  33. times.
