  11. We have a Mac SE/030 with a dead HD floppy.  Someone jammed a second
  12. disk into the floppy slot.  In our attempts to remove the disk, not
  13. knowing that two disks were inside, we probably damage or misaligned
  14. the read/write head on the floppy disk.  Now the floppy will not read
  15. or write any disks, always saying "This disk is damaged" and then ...
  16. "Disk Format Failed!"

  18. Question: What is a fast+cheap way to fix this problem?  Do we have to
  19. shell out $250 for the UIUC computer center to buy a raw floppy drive
  20. unit ($225) and install it ($25)?  Is there a way to get a raw drive
  21. head easily?  Can you get a raw HD drive at some sort of wholesale
  22. price, like you can for a PC (PC HD drives are only about $80).  I am
  23. quite capable of installing the new drive myself.
