- We have a Mac SE/030 with a dead HD floppy. Someone jammed a second
- disk into the floppy slot. In our attempts to remove the disk, not
- knowing that two disks were inside, we probably damage or misaligned
- the read/write head on the floppy disk. Now the floppy will not read
- or write any disks, always saying "This disk is damaged" and then ...
- "Disk Format Failed!"
-
- Question: What is a fast+cheap way to fix this problem? Do we have to
- shell out $250 for the UIUC computer center to buy a raw floppy drive
- unit ($225) and install it ($25)? Is there a way to get a raw drive
- head easily? Can you get a raw HD drive at some sort of wholesale
- price, like you can for a PC (PC HD drives are only about $80). I am
- quite capable of installing the new drive myself.
-
- Thanks in advance for the responses!
