- I think its basically a "buy our product cause we use big words" ad. The
- 16550 is a UART, which comes in a 40pin DIP package. It stands for
- Universal Asynchronous Reciever Transmitter. Basically, it is the part of
- your serial port that converts parallel to serial and vise versa. The
- Unique thing about the 16550 is that it has an internal buffer to help
- avoid loss of characters at high speed...
