- Most of the time when booting up my IBM AT I get a "1780 Disk 0
- Failure." I say most of the time because other times (granted,
- they're rare) the system boots fine with no hint of trouble.
-
- What could be causing this flaky behavior? One time, hitting the top
- of the drive caused the machine to boot up, prompting someone to
- suggest to me that the drive's motor may be bad. Though tonight, I
- turned it on once without doing anything special and it was fine - I
- turned it off and tried again with the error occurring this time.
-
- Could low levelling the drive to more than the AT can handle (I'm told
- by IBM that this size is 40) be the cause of my problems? I tried
- running Disk Manager (one that's meant for Seagate drives, though this
- is a Priam/Vertex drive) but this time it can't recognize the drive to
- do anything.
-
- Any suggestions would be appreciated.
-
- Also, if anyone can recommend a low levelling program that would be
- more suit to the Priam/Vertex drive (btw, applicable model numbers are
- Priam ID-40AT and Vertex V170, respectively [both company names are on
- the drive]), that would also be very helpful.
-
- Thank you very much,
- Mike
