- I have come to agree with the position C= has taken. I am just as
- curious about the new stuff as any other amigaphile, however, I think
- that there are good reasons for not announcing a product until it is
- complete.
-
- As someone mentioned before, there is the Osbourne syndrome. Announce
- that the next generation makes the current generation obsolete, and
- people will not want to buy any of the current generation which can make
- cash flow problems difficult in the time between the announcement date
- and the actual delivery date.
-
- This also leads to the next problem, what I term the Supra Modem Syndrome.
- If you announce something that is going to be awesome before you can
- deliver, you can end up with a lot of very frustrated people who are
- tired of waiting for months beyond when they were told they could have
- the object of their dreams. Some, like me, get so frustrated that they
- end up buying another modem, not because they don't want to wait, but
- because they have lost faith in the company. In addition, the company
- begins to feel so much pressure that they push the product out the doors
- before it is truly ready. This is bad for both them and the user.
-
- And as with everything else, there is bad news along with the good news.
- How many people are going to be happy when they find out that the only
- way to gain the abilities offered by the new chipset is to buy a new
- amiga (or have a motherboard swap at the least). I just hope that C=
- an upgrade path for current owners that is as nice as the new hardware.
-
- Tiredly,
