- GK. Subject: Newer COM drivers?
-
- GK. On another network I heard someone mention something about some new
- GK. COM drivers, apparently newer than the COMMGA drivers. I believe they
- GK. said they were called COM0207 or something like that. I couldn't find
- GK. them on ftp-os2 anywhere. Does anyone know if there were indeed any new
- GK. COM drivers released, and what fixes are in them?
-
- Yes, they are called either COM2210 or COMGA3, depending on where you get
- them from. They fix my problems:
-
- - Run Telemate v3.10 on an internal v.32bis modem (builtin NS16550AFN)
- on COM3 with IRQ5, and
-
- - Run Miracle Piano on COM2 concurrently with Telemate in the
- background.
-
- The first problem was vexing as I went through three successive .-versions
- before I found one which allowed BOTH UL's and DL's at 1630+ cps. One of
- the predisposing conditions which created this problem was that OS/2
- assumed that the BIOS initialized all of the ports. My AMI BIOS only
- initialized COM1 and COM2. Thus, when OS/2 would not let Telemate init
- the ports, the port did not get initialized at all.
-
- The second problem was created by Miracle Piano. Since you do not tell
- MP which port to use, it attempts to open them all to find one which will
- respond to it as it wants. Unfortunately, it does not then close the ports
- it does not use. Furthermore, it will attempt to open ports in use by
- other applications. A new DOS SETTING lets you tell the app which ports it
- is permitted to see...
