- KJ. From: kslater@sps.pgh.pa.us (Kevin J. Slater)
- KJ. Subject: chkdsk c: /f:3, How?
- KJ.
- KJ. Okay, I have reason to suspect that I need to run a chkdsk on my C:
- KJ. partition (HPFS for OS/2, 47M). How exactly do I go about this? What I
- KJ. tried so far:
- KJ. Booted OS/2 from the Install and Disk 1 floppies
- KJ. Attempted to run c:chkdsk c: /f:3 from the A: drive
- KJ. this didn't do much besides tell me that the HPFS file system was
- KJ. started, so I switched over to the C: drive and tried to run chkdsk from
- KJ. there. No joy. Got a disk is in use error message. So now what? (BTW, I
- KJ. have 1.2M 5.25" drive as drive A:)
-
- The problem is not that CHKDSK.COM is missing, but that you also need a
- copy of UHPFS.DLL for CHKDSK to do its /f:3...
-
- Put a copy of CHKDSK.COM and UHPFS.DLL on a diskette (they won't fit on
- a boot diskette) and, after booting, put in this diskette and type your
- CHKDSK C: /F:3. It should work like a charm...
-
- KJ. I think I need to run chkdsk for several reasons:
- KJ. 1) The other day my System folder was showing 2 copies of the Command
- KJ. Prompts folder (this in addition to the shadow version that's on the
- KJ. desktop). I attempted to determine which one was bogus. I was
- KJ. unsuccessful and when I through one in the trash can (shredder), all
- KJ. three went down in flames!
-
- Next time, merely go to the OS/2 prompt, find the directory under OS!2
- Desk Top named Command Prompts and delete (er, RD) it. Should solve the
- problem... Regards, Mikey
