- I posted about this last month, but I don't think it went out--anyway
- my WB does this frequently--acts like a software deadlock.
-
- I've had it not answer; hold the phone off hook with no carrier
- indefinitely, even with a 12 minute timeout set (S7?); put a busy-signal
- like wide band carrier out when answering (tones not in any modem standard,
- sounds more like a processor crash); it fails to reload defaults with
- data terminal ready transitions, etc.
-
- There is really no excuse for this. At least it should have a software
- watchdog timer to reset in a crash or lockup. I don't think it is a real crash
- of either processor, but rather a deadlock of some kind, caused by
- asychronous events, such as remote carrier dropping at the same instant as
- DTR drops, or other signals changing sumultaneously. It should not matter
- what irrational random noise I may send into the DB25 connector, the modem
- should be able to handle it without locking up. .
-
- The LA5.01 firmware did not fix the problem.
-
- The work around for me is to have cron turn off the power to the modem
- every night in the wee hours.
