- Dear fellow listers,
-
- I am taking the liberty of posting my resume to this list. I apologize
- if anyone considers this a breach of policy, but it is clearly a useful
- way to make my availability known to a large audience. Please feel free
- to make copies for anyone that might be interested. Respond directly

- OBJECTIVE
- To contribute to the efforts of a scientific research team
- in the Greater Seattle area. My successful experience in
- data analysis, applications programming, and database
- management gained through my participation in eleven
- research projects will help a team achieve its research and
- publication goals.
-
- EXPERIENCE
- Data analysis: Analyzed data from the following research
- projects using statistical techniques ranging from the t-
- test and correlation to the analysis of variance, the
- analysis of covariance, and multiple linear regression:
- - Carbohydrate induction of plasma triglyceride.
- - Self-efficacy and success at lowering plasma
- cholesterol.
- - Effect of phasic birth control pills on plasma lipids.
- - Effect of low-fat diets on plasma Lp(a).
- - Vitamin and mineral deficiencies in an elderly
- population and their association with ischemic tissue
- injury.
- - Effect of burn severity on the accuracy of urinary
- nitrogen measurements.
- - Impact of Washington's subsidized health insurance
- program (Basic Health Plan) on the medically uninsured.
- - Costs, use of services, and reactions of patients to a
- home-like hospital ward (the Planetree unit) in San
- Francisco.
- - The comparative use of health services experienced by
- three Seattle-area healthcare organizations.
- - Grazing of marine phytoplankton by a Puget Sound copepod
- (Pseudocalanus sp.)
- - Effect on the growth of an algal population by a
- synthetic aluminosilicate (zeolite) commonly found in
- laundry detergent.
-
- Applications Programming: Have written programs for
- mainframe computers since 1976; for microcomputers since
- 1984. Highly proficient in SAS (including the programming
- language, macro processor, statistical, and graphics
- procedures), FORTRAN, SPSS, MS-DOS, and VM/CMS (UW IBM main-
- frame operating system). Competent with dBase.
-
- Communication: Coauthor on three published manuscripts and
- three currently under review. Recently wrote the methods
- sections for two manuscripts and am currently working on the
- methods, results, and discussion sections of two others. I
- RICHARD C. LEICKLY

- have excellent verbal skills which I have used to understand
- datasets obtained from government (State of Washington, City
- of Seattle), healthcare providers (Group Health, Pierce
- County Medical, Clallam County Physicians, Pacific Medical
- Center), survey companies, dieticians, laboratory
- scientists, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians.
-
- Scientific Knowledge: I have been a fan of science for a
- long time. I have been formally educated in several areas
- of science, with particular emphasis on vertebrate and
- molecular biology; and phytoplankton and zooplankton
- ecology. My advanced degree in mathematics emphasized
- probability, statistics, and numerical methods. I take a
- deep interest in the subject matter of my work and have
- found that I can rapidly absorb new ideas.
-
- Database Management: Constructed and maintained datasets as
- large as 400,000 records. Made datasets from different
- sources mutually compatible and merged them to create files
- suitable for statistical analyses. Experienced user of
- magnetic tapes. Have prepared documentation for datasets.
-
- Collaboration: Worked independently on research projects in
- graduate school and, since 1984, have worked with
- programmers, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, economists,
- physicians, dieticians, healthcare insurance personnel, and
- data processors in a variety of collaborative projects.
-
- Supervisory: Supervised the programming and data management
- activities of a full-time programmer, five part-time
- programmers, and several data entry technicians.
