  14. The police did something along these lines in the 1950's.  They would
  15. put spectacularly wrecked cars (not bodies though) in places where they
  16. could be clearly seen.  There was one on Edmonton Green for a time,
  17. which I recall vividly.  The practice had no effect on road accidents,
  18. but it did rather horrify people.  The fact is that people are quite
  19. capable of erecting psychological defences against the horrific.  A
  20. subtler approach (Try telling _her_ drunk driving doesn't hurt anyone)
  21. is more likely to be productive.
