- I agree. I went to Alaska on the ferry and was in towns when the cruise ships
- pulled in and left. The towns immediately become a mess of people with cameras
- all crowding into the gift shops. Just as quickly everything's back to normal.
- I talked to locals about this and they seem to perceive it as a mixed blessing.
- I think I got a much better feel for the place itself and saved a ton of money.
- It may be coincidental, but people were incredibly friendly, especially when
- they saw my backpack; I got the feeling that they almost resented the cruise
- takers.
