-
- While Charlie is off on his geography, he's at least in the neighborhood
- as far as the spirit of the roads go, so that's worth something. He gets
- these lovely parting gifts, and a copy of the home game. :-)

-
- That is a nice road, as the Denizens that showed up for Dan Canfield's
- Labor Day '89 Gather can attest. (Especially following Ilana back down
- the mountain!) But the interesting part (from Kamas to Mirror Lake)
- isn't nearly 77 miles long, and the stretch from Mirror Lake to Evanston
- is pretty, but not all that twisty. Oh, it's State Road 150 if anyone's
- interested.
-
- No, the road in question is US 12, aka Lolo Pass, between Lewiston,
- Idaho and Missoula, Montana. The 77 miles is actually between Lowell
- and Lolo, though the rest of the road is worth riding too (not that
- you've got a lot of choice :-).
-
- >>> <2> Caution: Passing Areas Not Marked
- >>> a. Ogden Canyon road. That runs East toward Huntsville.
-
- Another nice road, but double yellow nearly the whole length, and heavy
- traffic too, with all those boats headed up to Pineview dam.
-
- This one is Mt. St. Helens. If you can tear your eyes away from the
- staggering destruction of the blast zone, you'll find a perfect ribbon
- of road, with no double yellow anywhere on the mountian. The road must
- have been designed by a motorcyclist: perfect asphalt, a wonderful
- mixture of fast & slow curves, amazing scenery, and the whole thing is a
- legal passing zone. And there's a single-lane-with-turnouts back road
- that most cages don't even bother to try.
-
- I encountered both roads during the Great Pacific Northwest Dryside
- Gather that Bill Johns & Co. put on last August. What a weekend!
-
- BTW Charlie, how much time have you spent in Utah? You almost sound like
- a native. :-)
