-
- In "38 Basic Joseki", after the move by White shown, various responses
- are given. Black replies at either a or b. Say Black plays at a, then
- White can play at A. Thereafter, the book gives a couple of continuations
- for Black.
-
- However, a move not covered is Black at c. It seems to me that this
- gives Black the potential for a strong outward facing wall with White
- trapped below. Alternatively, Black gains the corner while White lives
- on the side.
-
- For example:
-
- | . . . . . . . . | . . . . . . . .
- | . . . . . . . . | . . . . . . . .
- | . a . . . . . . | . a b . . . . .

- | . . . . E D . . | . f e d E . . .
- | . . . . . . . . | . . . . . . . .
- +----------------- +-----------------
-
- Is this reasoning correct? Or is there some subtlety I am missing that
- makes the continuation at the 2-4 pt bad for Black?
