- Hi. I'm Janet Gunn, I live in Virginia, and I have been involved with
- horses, off and on, since I was a kid.
-
- My horsey credentials -
-
- graduate B Pony Clubber, Golden's Bridge Hounds Pony Club, Metropolitan Region,
- mid '60s to early 70s
- Competed in Combined Training up to the Training level (hope to do Prelim)
- Hunters to 3'6"
- Jumpers to 3'9"
- Dressage to First Level (some work at 2nd Level
- Some Foxhunting
- Trained 4 horses from scratch to various level (2 for other people)
- I have leased as many horses (4) as I have owned.
-
- I currently own 2 horses.
- Night Music is a rising 7yo TBxQH 16h1 1/2" mare I have had since she was
- a yearling. For various reasons, last year was a bust, but she should be going
- Training this year. Very laid back, very smart, good mover, good jumper.
-
- I Spy is a rising 11yo registered TB 15h3" gelding out of a Babu Dancer mare,
- bred by the breedeer of JJ Babu. He got to be 8 without ever being broken,
- and was then sold at auction when the breeder (in his mid 90s) dispersed his
- farm. At that point, my sister bought his full sister, 2 years younger.
- A year later I got a call saying that the man who had bought him had not been
- able to do anything with him (he would get on Spy's back, and Spy wouldn't move)
- and had not been able to sell him to anyone else. He had lost his shoes and
- was lame from sore feet, and was going to the local cheap auction the next
- evening unless someone bought him first (for $400). Since his sister, Daisy,
- had turned out so well, and since the I hated the thought of an unspoiled
- horse with real potential turning into dogfood, I decided it was worth the
- gamble. The idea is to train him enough to turn him from a useless horse
- to a useful horse, and sell him to a good home. He has a really relaxed and
- friendly temprament, so I think he would make a good kid's horse. At any rate,
- even though I couldn't ride for half of '92, he is now jumping round little 2'
- courses. He should start out this year with some pre-novice events, and
- then move up to novice.
-
- I am the Treasurer, and a founding member, of the local combined training
- association CDCTA.
-
- I am the organizer for the CDCTA Spring Horse Trials, at Commonwealth Park
- in Culpeper Va, May 22-23 this year. We need a total of about 100 volunteers
- to put on the event. If anyone is interested in helping, please let me know.
- We need everything - stadium set up and ring crew, scribes for judges,
- Cross country jump judges, timers, people to deliver food to the judges,
- outriders, etc., etc. You don't need to know a lot to do these things, and
- we will train you.
-
- I post occaisionally, usually when someone asks a question I think I know
- the answer to.
-
- I am a technical director at NMI, acomputer communications and distributed
- computing consulting and services company in Fairfax Va.
-
- My other sport is motorcycle roadracing.
