  13. I cam having trouble connecting to the Xserver from a remote client. System config: ISC 3.0, Trident 8900C chip set. Xfree86 1.2., ISC tcp/ip 1.3, with the IP connection between the two machines being by SLIP.

  15. I have /etc/X0.hosts set up to allow pitacat.math.cwru.edu to access the server.
  16. When I run xhosts on izen386 (an alias for shi-slip) I get:

  18.     izen386 [84]% /usr/X11R5/bin/xhost
  19.     access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
  20.     shi-slip.DIALIN.CWRU.Edu
  21.     pitacat.MATH.CWRU.Edu

  23. Ok, then from pitacat, the following doesn't work:

  25.     pitacat [9]% xdpyinfo
  26.     Xlib:  connection to "izen386:0.0" refused by server
  27.     Xlib:  Client is not authorized to connect to Server
  28.     xdpyinfo:  unable to open display "izen386:0".

  30. So then I tried the following on izen386:

  32.     izen386 [85]% xhost +
  33.     all hosts being allowed (access control disabled)
  34.     XIO:  fatal IO error 77 on X server "unix:0.0"
  35.     Not a data message
  36.           after 5 requests (2 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

  38. And I also tried:
  39.     izen386 [88]% /usr/X11R5/bin/xhost +pitacat
  40.     pitacat being added to access control list
  41.     XIO:  fatal IO error 77 (Not a data message) on X server "unix:0.0"

  45. So I tried it from pitacat, with DISPLAY set to izen386:0.
  46. pitacat [11]% xhost +
  47. Xlib:  connection to "izen386:0.0" refused by server
  48. Xlib:  Client is not authorized to connect to Server
  49. xhost:  unable to open display "izen386:0"
  50.  
  51. Local clients on izen386 have no trouble connecting to the server.  What am I missing?  I used to connect all the time with no trouble with ISC's version of 
  52. X.  Any ideas?
