  11. When you fire up the external hard drive, it takes some time before it can be
  12. registered on the SCSI bus. In the meantime, you internal hard drive has done
  13. its thing and has failed to recognize the external.  On the re-boot, you've
  14. now allowed enough time to go by for the external to send out it's "I'm here"
  15. message, so you see the drive.
  16. As for solutions, definitely the best fix is the program SCSI-Probe which can
  17. be set up to go out to the SCSI bus during the boot and to locate - and mount
  18. - any SCSI devices it finds.
