- I've checked IM I-VI, and there doesn't seem to be an easy answer.
-
- I made a custom icon for my System Folder (the blessed folder) using
- ResEdit, and cut and paste and it looks okay, except that the system
- seems to have picked up the icl4 icon rather than the icl8 icon to use.
-
- I see in IMM VI that file custom icons are stored in the resouce fork
- with a particular resouce ID number, but it doesn't say boo about where
- the picture or Icon resources are kept for folders!
-
- Since folders are also files (generally) there is obviously some way for
- the system itself to potentially open the resouce fork of a folder file,
- but ResEdit doesn't seem to want to play with the custom icons attached
- to a folder (heck, it won't even admit to haveing any concept of the
- folder being a file! Recent version 2.1.?)
-
- I've played around a bit with Norton Disk Editor and SUM II (its
- predecessor) and can't seem to locate the bit patterns or resources on
- disk even! (I know the file # for the folder file, but the disk
- editors don't provide a linkage to the blocks of the file from the file
- definition!
-
- So, are the custom Icons for a folder stored in the resouce fork of the
- folder file? Are they stored in the desktop databases? I'm sure they
- are not in System or Finder!
