  12. Well, it looks like I have finally fixed that power supply problem that I was
  13. having with my Mac Plus after upgrading it's memory. Detalied description
  14. follows...

  16. After swapping the power supply logic board with one from a 512K Mac, the
  17. Plus motherboard gave the same problems (power supply would cycle). I then
  18. hooked up an external 400K floppy to the Plus motherboard, and tried again.
  19. This time, the system came up without cycling. The screen wouldn't come up,
  20. but when I hooked the SCSI drive up to the motherboard, the system accessed
  21. the SCSI drive and "Booted" the system. Still no display, though.

  23. Well, this was interesting. Swapped the 512K motherboard back in, and that
  24. came up, so this eliminated the power supply board and monitor. Hm... 
  25. Maybe the problem is that the Plus is not drawing ENOUGH power due to a
  26. failure in some circuit on the motherboard to energise the video display.
  27. A close check of the motherboard revealed a nick where my pliers slipped as
  28. I cut the R8 resistor. Hm... I then sanded the insulation off the PCB 
  29. insulation, soldered a bridge wire around the nick, and the system came up.
  30. This was good. A quick adjustment of the PS to get me up to 5.03 volts, and
  31. everything was back to normal.

  33. Now this leaves me with a friend's Mac 512K that works, but I don't need to
  34. cannibalize it for parts. My new question is: What can one do with a Mac 512K?
  35. Is there enough memory for it to run most applications, can one put a Lisa
  36. hard drive on the floppy controller, can one buy a turbo motherboard and use
  37. the 512K ROMS? Is it worth the powder to blow it to hell, and does it run 
  38. AppleTalk? I wouldn't mind having a spare Mac around, but not if it's useless.
