- Well, since everyone's been defending this card, let me attack it a
- little! I've seen many problems since installing this thing in my
- 486/SX-25, and though the improvement in bringing up Windows 3.1 is
- noticeable, I don't see much improvement in the other apps to really
- warrant all the shouting...and more than this, the thing has got some
- problems.
-
- Diamond includes the Halo Desktop Imager program with the purchase.
- While Halo is a nice package on its own, you'd think the reason they
- included it was because it really shows off the 24X's performance.
- Well, it's as slow as my Imagein program was with my old Trident 1MB.
- Also, in my Turbo C++ for windows, when you return from the Turbo
- Debugger, you get little blacked out pixels in various parts of the
- screen which persist through any other apps you might start.
-
- Another small problem with the normal Windows screen saver is that ever
- since installing the 24X, the pointer arrow never disappears. Of
- course, I also ran into the well-publicized Word 2.0 Tools menu bug.
-
- Overall, I'm still a real big fan of compatibility, and the Trident
- never gave me these problems, though it is admittedly slower redrawing
- windows (but not *that* much). Oh well, at least now I have a spare
- video card to start building my next system with! :-)
