  22.                  DIGITAL ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO SELL
  23.             WESTFIELD METAL ENCLOSURE MANUFACTURING UNIT

  26. MAYNARD, Mass. -- January 26, 1993 -- Digital Equipment Corporation 
  27. announced today that it intends to offer its Metal Enclosure 
  28. Manufacturing Unit located in Westfield, Massachusetts for sale. 
  29. The corporation intends to sell the operating unit as an intact 
  30. business. The business currently manufactures and supplies a large 
  31. portion of Digital's metal enclosure requirements.

  33.      Located on approximately 200 acres of land, the 535,000 square-
  34. foot facility was opened in 1970 to supply Digital with an internal 
  35. source for metal enclosures. It currently employs approximately 445 
  36. people.

  38.      "Our manufacturing strategy centers around investing in areas 
  39. that support our core competencies and divesting ourselves of areas 
  40. that do not differentiate us," said Edward B. McDonough, Digital's 
  41. vice president of Manufacturing and Logistics. "While we are very 
  42. proud of the contribution that the Metal Enclosures Manufacturing 
  43. Unit has made to our product offerings, it does not represent a core 
  44. competency for Digital under the current strategy. It is our 
  45. intention to sell the unit to an entity for whom metals 
  46. manufacturing is the primary business. In this way, Westfield can 
  47. continue to be an important part of Digital's supply chain."
