- (JAN. 19) PAC RIM INTELLIGENCE REPORT - Brigadier General Myo Thant, leader of
- the Information Committee of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC)
- and minister of information, met with journalists from foreignnews services
- stationed in Yangon (Rangoon) and journalists from television stations, radio
- stations, news agencies, and newspapers currently in Yangon to cover the
- National Convention at 0900 in the conference hall of the Department of
- Myanmar (Burma) Television and Broadcasting on Prome Road.
- Brig. Gen. Aung Thein, deputy leader of the SLORC Information Committee and
- director of the Defense Ministry's Department of Public Relations and
- Psychological Warfare and other committee membersColonel Than Tun, joint
- adjutant general; Col. Ye Htut, director of the Military History Museum and
- the Military Archives; Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Win, deputy director of the
- Directorate of Defense Services Intelligence (DDSI); Lt. Col. Thcin Hart,
- director general of the Office of the Committee for Development of Border
- Regions and National Races; Lt. Col. Kyaw Thein, staff officer grade-1 from the
- DDSIU Kyi Lwin, director general of the Department of Myanmar Television and
- Broadcasting; U Aye, director of the Department of Political Affairs of the
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs; U Maung Maung Kyaw, director general of the
- Directorate of Trade; U Maung Aung, director general of the Department of
- Immigration and Manpower; U Win Sein, director general of the Department of
- Information and Public Relations; and U Sett Maung, advisor to the Office of
- the SLORC.
- Following an introductory speech by Minister Brig. Gen. Myo Thant, the
- minister and members of the Information Committee replied to questions related
- to the National Assembly raised by 19 journalists from Radio France
- International, Germany's ARD Television, NEWSWEEK magazine, Japan's KYODO News
- Agency, SANKEI SHIMBUN, YOMIURI SHIMBUN, NIHON KEIZAI, MAINICHI SHIMBUN, ASAHI
- SHIMBUN, NHK Television, AFP, AP, BBC, Thailand Television Station, AUSTRALIA
- BROADCASTING CORPORATION, and TIME magazine. The meeting ended at 1130.
