- I just had a thought about ethics. (Scary, isn't it.) Perhaps a study
- is in order. Remember the Milgram study where he "arrested" student
- volunteer subjects and subjected them to all kinds of humiliations
- while serving time in prison? Remember how the professors who talk about
- this study always say "Of course, this study would never be approved
- by the review boards today". Here's the idea for a study. Write up the
- Milgram study (or something similar) as if it had not been done before and
- submit it to the review boards of a sample of universities that have a
- strong research presence. See if it is approved anywhere. I'd be willing
- to bet that approval could be won. Many review boards are so overworked
- and have so little an understanding of research and its implications
- that some would probably support such a study.
-
- Of course, ethical considerations alone preclude my taking part in such an
- effort.
