  14. I aplogize if this is not the most appropriate forum to
  15. address my question, but I'm at a loss as to where I can
  16. find answers to my questions via the Internet.  I've tried
  17. to contact the list adminstrator, but my mail just bounces
  18. back due to "address unknown" failures.

  20. I've recently subscribed to PSYCGRAD, IOOB-l, PSYC, and
  21. SMDM-L.  The reason in doing so, is that I am at a point in
  22. my life where I need to get some counseling of some sort.
  23. Being a computer junkie, the Internet Groups seemed like the
  24. most logical place to start asking some questions.

  26. After reading the "welcome" letters, it seems that these
  27. lists are more for folks who are actively involved in
  28. psychology or some other closely related field.

  30. I am prepared to seek counseling, whoever I am a U.S.
  31. Government employee, working for the FAA as an Air Traffic
  32. Controller.  The moment that the FAA discovers that I'm
  33. being counseled, my security clearance is pulled and my
  34. medical certificate is pulled.  I could very well be out of
  35. a job.

  37. I need to get in touch with someone who can answer questions
  38. regarding 1) how to select a psychologist, 2) how much will
  39. my privacy be protected, 3) what type of psychologist should
  40. I seek, 4) etc. etc. etc.

  42. The FAA offers a program called EAP, Employee Assistance
  43. Program, but I've already witnessed to fellow workers get
  44. fired for seeking help from this organization regarding
  45. drinking problems.

  47. My health care provider, Kaiser Permanente, says that it
  48. will be at least six weeks before I can even get an initial
  49. counsultation, and then I'll just be placed in Group
  50. Therapy.  Of course, if I tell them that I'm experiencing
  51. certain "key feelings", they will be more than happy to
  52. admit me to the psych unit.  But then this exposes the
  53. problem to the FAA.  Kaiser also says that is is VERY common
  54. for the U.S. Government to rifle through medical records.
  55. They could not guarantee my privacy.

  57. If any of you would be willing to correspond with me in this
  58. matter or direct me to the most approprate list to ask such
  59. questions, I'd be most appreciative.
