- APA requires more stuff to be taught than it is possible to teach in
- a reasonable (4-5 year) series of courses. Therefore, they provide an
- out by stating that not all requirements must be met by formal coursework.
- The idea is that students can learn some things (notably, ethics) while
- on internship or from major professors/mentors outside of the classroom
- setting. My program (Applied Psychology at the university of georgia--
- make that read I-O/Measurement, the old name for this program) does not
- offer a course in ethics. It is assumed that this can be covered as
- units of other courses. Most of the professors here do raise ethical
- issues in some of their classes, but the coverage is not very deep. As
- far as I know, the clinical program here also does not have a course
- dedicated to ethical considerations. However, the faculty and students
- here are very aware of ethical problems. So far, there have been no
- major problems in this area.
