  21. Hear! Hear!  An enormous waste!  I was just on a search committee for
  22. a dean and we didn't ask for letters until the final cut.  As I look
  23. around for greener pastures, I put in my cover letter that I will
  24. supply letters only if I make the cut; if the search committee can't
  25. want to work there.  dhr
