  21. Purdue University invites applications and nominations for Head
  22. of the Department of Educational Studies in the School of
  23. Education.  Purdue University is a research-oriented, land-grant
  24. public university with approximately 36,000 students on the main
  25. campus.  Located at West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is
  26. a member of the Holmes Group.

  28. The School of Education was formed in 1989 from the previous
  29. Department of Education.  Faculty have demonstrated a strong
  30. commitment to scholarship and professional preparation.  The
  31. School is comprised of two departments--Educational Studies and
  32. Curriculum & Instruction--and is NCATE and state accredited.  The
  33. Department of Educational Studies offers programs at the
  34. baccalaureate level in Special Education, and at the master's,
  35. education specialist, and doctoral levels in Special Education,
  36. Foundations and Administration, Educational Psychology and
  37. Research Methodology, and Counseling and Development.  There are
  38. 33 faculty in the department.

  40. Applicants must hold an earned doctorate; possess a record of
  41. teaching, service and scholarship commensurate with appointment
  42. at the rank of Professor within the Department; have
  43. administrative experience and a demonstrated capacity for
  44. leadership; and have a commitment to an administrative career.
  45. Specifically, the position requires a creative leader whose style
  46. is conducive to consultation and collaboration.  The faculty are
  47. committed to a strategic planning process, with an emphasis on
  48. professional development schools, leadership in technology, and
  49. the continuation and strengthening of our research community.
  50. The starting date for the position is July 1, 1993.  Screening of
  51. applications will begin February 1, 1993 and continue until the
  52. position is filled.

  54. Applicants must submit a statement of interest in the position
  55. that expresses their conception of their own major strengths as a
  56. potential Head of this Department of Educational Studies, and
  57. addresses how their experiences and professional goals will shape
  58. their leadership as Head.  Applicants must also include a
  59. curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of at least four
  60. references, and reprints of two scholarly works.  Applications
  61. from women and members of minority groups are especially
  62. encouraged.
