- Purdue University invites applications and nominations for Head
- of the Department of Educational Studies in the School of
- Education. Purdue University is a research-oriented, land-grant
- public university with approximately 36,000 students on the main
- campus. Located at West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is
- a member of the Holmes Group.

- The School of Education was formed in 1989 from the previous
- Department of Education. Faculty have demonstrated a strong
- commitment to scholarship and professional preparation. The
- School is comprised of two departments--Educational Studies and
- Curriculum & Instruction--and is NCATE and state accredited. The
- Department of Educational Studies offers programs at the
- baccalaureate level in Special Education, and at the master's,
- education specialist, and doctoral levels in Special Education,
- Foundations and Administration, Educational Psychology and
- Research Methodology, and Counseling and Development. There are
- 33 faculty in the department.

- Applicants must hold an earned doctorate; possess a record of
- teaching, service and scholarship commensurate with appointment
- at the rank of Professor within the Department; have
- administrative experience and a demonstrated capacity for
- leadership; and have a commitment to an administrative career.
- Specifically, the position requires a creative leader whose style
- is conducive to consultation and collaboration. The faculty are
- committed to a strategic planning process, with an emphasis on
- professional development schools, leadership in technology, and
- the continuation and strengthening of our research community.
- The starting date for the position is July 1, 1993. Screening of
- applications will begin February 1, 1993 and continue until the
- position is filled.

- Applicants must submit a statement of interest in the position
- that expresses their conception of their own major strengths as a
- potential Head of this Department of Educational Studies, and
- addresses how their experiences and professional goals will shape
- their leadership as Head. Applicants must also include a
- curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of at least four
- references, and reprints of two scholarly works. Applications
- from women and members of minority groups are especially
- encouraged.
