- With respect to the continuing dialogue about classics.....

- I can see that there is value in naming classics. However, I offer the
- following caveat. When lists of classics are constructed, voices are
- denied. Historically, the voices of women and people of color have been
- ignored when constructing canons.
- Look at the nominations thus far......Rousseau's Emile, Plato's Republic. a
- few of the writers from the 60s. Who's voices are being valued and heard?
- So, I would say, continue your list if you wish. But see it for what it is--
- a partial naming of knowledge and nothing more.
