  12. With respect to the continuing dialogue about classics.....

  14. I can see that there is value in naming classics.  However, I offer the
  15. following caveat.  When lists of classics are constructed, voices are
  16. denied.  Historically, the voices of women and people of color have been
  17. ignored when constructing canons.
  18. Look at the nominations thus far......Rousseau's Emile, Plato's Republic. a
  19. few of the writers from the 60s.  Who's voices are being valued and heard?
  20. So, I would say, continue your list if you wish.  But see it for what it is--
  21. a partial naming of knowledge and nothing more.
