- Preparing Adult Immigrants for Work: The Educational Response in Two
- Communities--K. Ramsey, A. Robyn
- This document presents the results of a two-year exploratory study of
- adult immigrant students' English-language instruction and vocational
- education needs and the response of postsecondary education providers
- to those needs. It presents case study research of two communities
- with large immigrant populations, and the findings provide insights
- into how and why educational services differ among schools and programs
- and what the differences mean to adult immigrant students pursuing
- education. The descriptions of community responsiveness to the adult
- immigrant student should help educators and policy makers understand
- how program decisions and institutional traditions affect immigrants'
- opportunities to learn.

- differs from most reports issued by NCRVE in that it neither analyzes
- the design and implementation of particular policies nor assesses
- their effectiveness. This data come from a survey of work-related
- education and training policies in the fifty states, and are available
- to researchers and members of the policy community through NCRVE.

- Schools--J.W. Little
- Vocational and academic teachers occupy two separate worlds in

- vocational teachers occupy in the professional community of high
- school.
