- You may recall that a few weeks ago I posted a request for info on local
- places to get NY style pickles. I received a few helpful responses, which
- are summarized below (attributions removed but thanks to those who replied).
- I have not had an opportunity to follow up and actually _go_ to any of these
- places yet, so I can not comment on the validity of any of these
- recommendations. That said, here's the information I received for anyone
- else who may be interested:

- There's a Nyorkish deli on Sutter St tween Stockton and Powell
- in SF which a friend from Long Island says has all the really
- "good" food. I would guess David's on Geary near Taylor would
- probably have those big pickles, too.

- For great New York style pickles, go to a Lunardi's market.
- There is one in Los Gatos. Look in the packaged deli section
- and you will find Bubbles Pickles.
-
- Personally, I'm not keen on them, but my ex-New Yorker husband
- is thrilled as you can be about them. He thinks that they
- resemble the ones straight from the barrel.
-
- Give them a try. Enjoy!

- Have you tried that German place (Wurst Haus?) on San Antonio?
- It is on the right hand side as you are going towards El Camino
- (between California and El Camino). Never been there, but I
- would think that they might have some....

- I've seen Ba Tampte half-sours at Trader Joe's. You might ask at the
- branch in Menlo Park (I saw them in San Rafael, some time ago).
- They are also served at Saul's delicatessen here in Berkeley--so
- check other New York-style deli places (e.g., Brother's, on Howard Ave.
- off El Camino in Burlingame).
-
-
- (summarizer's note: I have been to one sort of NY-ish deli, The Jew and
- The Gentile Deli on Shoreline Ave. in Mt. View, and the pickles there
- were absolutely awful, but this says nothing about any other deli.)
