- I read an article a while back about a pharmaceutical company which had
- been developing some sort of drug out of a Sour Grass plant which grew
- in the Rockies someplace. They backed off when they found out that the
- active ingredient was one of the precursor chemicals in LSD production.
- Now, I understand that the same chemical (I beleive it was ergotamine)
- is mainly taken from a rot which occurs on Rye plants and that this is
- the major source. My question is if anyone knows the specifics here and
- whether the Sour Grass contains enough of the chemical to be effectivly
- harvested (err, that was supposed to be 'to be a possible source of detriment
- to the moral fiber of America').
