- The "new" injectable birth control is called Depo-Provera; I believe
- it's manufactured by Upjohn. It has been used in Third World countries
- for quite some time, but only lately has it become widely available in
- the United States. It's a "female" birth control method; i.e., it gets
- injected into a woman.
-
- Depo-Provera has another effect besides birth control, too (this is
- why I'm keeping the crosspost to alt.psychoactives) -- it reduces sex
- drive, even when administered to a male. It's been used successfully
- in treating sex offenders and paraphiliacs. (Those of you with access
- to the Medline can check out various publications from John Money and
- Johns Hopkins Hospital's Psychohormonal Research Unit.)
