- : But Joe,
- : It's a classist thing. I'd have had more
- : sympathy if they weren't making half a million a year!
- : My husband makes less than $20,000 and I can afford to stay
- : home. I do work, as a freelance writer.
- :
-
- Why are people so jealous of how much money others make? Sheesh.
-
- : Mrs. Baird's going off and leaving an 8 month old baby
- : so that she can work is pure selfishness. If you want
-
- Hate to break the news to you but EVERYONE is selfish. It seems
- to me that each generation gets MORE selfish (this is my own
- opinion).
-
- : to work, you work. If you want babies, you don't

- : to a devaluation of women's jobs by emphasizing that outside
- : work is more stimulating than the processof loving, guiding
- : and nurturing a little life.
- :
-
- Some people are NOT good at parenting. And maybe people have a
- lot of passion for the work they do.
-
- : Having said all that, I believe we need a daycare system implemented.
- : We are the only civilized country without one. It's
- : like our medical system. It should not cost me more to work
- : outside the home than I would make. (On a minimum wage job, all
- : that is available in this town, I would be going in the hole on
- : child-care. If I work in the evenings when my husband is home,
- : it could damage our marriage.)
- :
-
- Life is full of choices. My heart bleeds for you, but my wallet
- does not. Maybe you could take some nightschool classes, one
- night a week, and get skills so you can get a higher paying job
- than minimum wage.
-
- : Get a clue! There's a difference between reform and socialism.
- : Or is everyone too mired in dreams of the good old days of
- : the Industrial Revolution to see that?
- :
-
- Reform? Reform of what? Where is the money going to come from for
- day care? Whatever money we got now is going to be focused on
- eliminating the already way too much money we spend on social
- programs each year.
-
- : Angel, not supporting Baird, but knowing what she did and why.
- :
- :
-
- I think I understand why she did what she did and I have no problem
- with it. I would have to ask the people she hired if they were
- unhappy with the arrangement before I really could judge if they
- were being taken advantage of. On the one hand, she didn't pay them
- much. But on the other, they may have done a lot worse picking
- vegatables or whatever. And perhaps Zoe really liked these people,
- and felt she was doing them a favor.
-
- If she really was the best person to do the job, and would have
- done great things for the country, we lose by not having her
- do the job. And like it or not, Clinton is the man who micromanaged
- the cabinet selections and chose her.
-
- I do not support her and would not have picked her in the first place.
- But that's my opinion.
