- Well, I'm not much of a storyteller but I can give it a try.
- I've seen FZ several times. I'll try to see what I can remember.
-
- 1. Capitol Theater Passaic New Jersey: November 1, 1973
- 2. Chicago: 1974-1980, several performances over these years
- 3. Detroit: 81-83? I can't remember the year but it was the last time
- I saw FZ on tour :( and we had seats in the last row of the upper
- balcony at the Joe Louis Arena. (I had a long lens and took some
- photos from the balcony, I'll have to see if I can find it. Maybe
- we can find a site to archive scanned photos from our concerts?)
-
- The first was one of the best since it was a similar show to Roxy and
- Elsewhere and it was my first FZ shows. I can still remember the grin
- on my face as I watched Ruth Underwood on the Zylophone.
-
- I was only 15 at the time and my parents had sent me to a school in
- Vermont for one semester. There was a women there who received the
- New York Times every Sunday and one day I was looking through the
- concert listings and saw Zappa had a Halloween show in New York. I
- had a friend who lived in New Jersey at the time so I wrote him and
- asked him to pick up tickets for the concert. Well, he got the post
- Halloween show tickets for the NJ show but I was still fun. I
- hitch-hiked down to NJ for the concert. It was the days of chicks and
- drugs so we talked about the former and smoked a lot of the latter.
- I wound up getting sick the day before the concert (from something I
- ate while stoned). Shit, I thought for sure I was going to miss the
- concert. Anyhow, the next day I was fine and when we went to the show
- I decided it might be a good idea to not get high. I'm glad I didn't
- because I think I enjoyed the show more.
-
- FZ did most of the Roxy and Elsewhere stuff. It was fantastic. I can
- only recall how overwhelmed I was by all the kooky people that show
- up for his concerts (after all this was my first time in New Jersey).
- I saw two or three jerks dressed as FZ lookalikes and lots of other
- wierdos. I guess now I'm one of them.
-
- I can't recall much about which cuts were played or any theatrics
- employed by FZ. So I'll cut this short.
